Bespoke couture and millinery — made to stop people in their tracks.
Esther Chidi Ikegwuruka is a self-taught Nigerian-Irish couturier and milliner based at Ballybane Beag Hub. Fashion has been in her life since childhood — her mother was a fashion designer, and Esther grew up running errands, passing threads, and teaching herself the craft one stitch at a time.
When she moved to Ireland and couldn't find anyone to make her outfits, she bought a sewing machine and learned to make them herself. That instinct — to create what doesn't exist, in exactly the way she envisions it — is what still drives every piece she makes today.
Esther's aesthetic is elegance with edge: print fabrics, feathers, trimmings, unusual laces. She sources materials from Ireland and abroad, with a particular love for fabrics that carry the rich patterns and textures of her West African heritage. Her hats have turned heads at the Galway Races. Her dresses have stopped people in the street.
